This bilingual contribution focuses on language policy and institutional practices (Idiazabal & Dolz 2013) about personal multilingualism. How does an institution in charge of teacher training programs deal with the multilingualism of its students and employees? To what extent must the institution be in line with its own training contents, particularly those regarding language pedagogy (Castellotti 2001)? After a detailed presentation of the sociolinguistic context of Berne, Switzerland, this paper will examine the policies and practices of the German-speaking institution Pädagogische Hochschule Bern (PHBern) through two internal projects which address dealing with multilingualism. A joint conclusion will outline the (in-)coherences and tensions between a linguistic diversity that is a reality and the way it is actually taken into account and managed in tertiary education.
