This article is focused on the question of how educational inequalities in the digital area can be described in terms of Bourdieu's theory of capital. To this end, a differentiation of the fundamental guises of capital is proposed, in which digital social capital and digital embodied, digital objectified, and digital institutionalised cultural capital are designed as sub-areas of the general guises of capital. Based on this clarification, selected empirical studies that use Bourdieu as an explanatory approach are used and interpreted in the context of this differentiation. The results show that educational inequalities in the digital area can be described by the unequal distribution and appropriation of forms of capital including the digital area. The proposed differentiation makes it possible to describe, analyse, classify and understand these inequalities. The work thus contributes to media education and provides a basis for promoting the media skills of teachers. The outlook emphasises the need for further theoretical perspectives to comprehensively understand and reduce educational inequalities in all areas.
