The concept of “Sekolah Rimba” includes contextualizing learning methods developed by Butet Manurung, teacher of a threatened group of hunters and gatherers in Central Sumatra. Rosa and Wahjoe, two Javanese activists, currently try to transmit this concept to a group of Asmat in Southern Papua. They approach children who live with their parents in the wetlands, which are accessible only by boat. In the second part of the film, Rufus Sati, an Asmat elder, critically comments on government schools and ‘contextualization’ as a method.
