We argue that effective reflection on the moral dimensions of teaching requires teachers to address specific developmental processes that underlie children’s moral development. We conceptualize developmental processes as social interactions between teachers and children or among children, which can be measured by means of classroom observation systems. Coaching based on systematic observations allow teachers to plan and initiate small steps regarding changes in their skills and goals in moral education. We provide two examples to illustrate how observation systems can be used in teacher education in the moral domain.
