This article claims that the competences required for making an ethical judgement are key for social transformations. Addressing situations from an ethical perspective requires descriptive as well as normative clarifications under nonideal conditions and judgements must be made in view of complexities and while uncertainties may hold. All these competences are essential for transformative learning. Undeniably, fostering these competences is challenging. However, various assessments of learning materials for ethical learning in different school settings have shown that primary school learners aged 8 and 11 mastered the corresponding competences after receiving some training. These results are very promising in view of transformative learning. Yet, in view of its extremely rational and analytically basis, the model of ethical judgement needs to be complemented by the emotional and psychological dimension of care in order to support future-orientated transformations effectively.
